Petroresin
Petroresin, or hydrocarbon resin, is a type of thermoplastic polymer primarily categorized into aliphatic (C5) and aromatic (C9) resins. To enhance its properties, including thermal stability, UV resistance, prevention of color change in the final product, and elimination of odor, petroresin undergoes a hydrogenation process.
Applications
- Paints and Coatings: Petroresin is widely used in the paint and coating industries. For example, C9 petroresin is utilized in coloring paper, producing explosives, manufacturing various colored inks, the rubber and plastic industries, and in the production of polish and gloss products.
- Adhesives and Tapes: Petroresin is also used in the production of adhesives and adhesive tapes. Many industrial adhesives and wood glues are made using hydrocarbon resins, and resin blends are particularly suitable for this industry.
Additional Notes
While petroresin is generally considered inert and stable in various respects, it is still a chemical substance that requires proper storage conditions. The most important condition is to avoid high temperatures, even though the material is usually non-flammable. Additionally, environments containing explosives or similar materials should not be used for storing this product.
It is also important to note that some resins may cause allergies. Therefore, protective gear such as special clothing, goggles, gloves, and masks are essential to protect skin, eyes, hands, the respiratory system, and other body parts when handling petroresin.
