Aluminum Silicate

Aluminum Silicate

Aluminum silicate, also known as aluminosilicate, is an inorganic mineral compound composed of oxygen (O), aluminum (Al), and silicate (Si). It appears as a white, powdery solid with very fine particle sizes (approximately 1 to 10 microns).

Applications of Aluminum Silicate

  • Paint and Coatings Industry: Used as a matting agent, thixotrope, and thickener in water-based semi-matte and matte paints, oil-based semi-matte and matte paints, and traffic paints to increase resistance to rust and prevent cracking.
  • Agricultural Fertilizers and Pesticides: Used as an anti-caking and anti-clumping agent in powdered and granular fertilizers and pesticides to prevent material sticking and to extend the shelf life and durability of powders.
  • Printing Inks Industry: Serves as a sharpness regulator, matting agent, and thickener in printing inks.
  • Rubber Industry: Used as a strengthener and VN3 replacer, especially in colored and non-black rubber.
  • Tire Industry: Acts as a replacement for carbon black in green tires and as a substitute for microsilica.
  • PVC Pipe and Masterbatch Industry: Used as a partial replacement for titanium dioxide.
  • Paper Industry: Used as a whitening and coating agent in paper production.
  • Ceramic Glaze Industry: Functions as a networker and matting agent.
  • China Industry: Serves as a substitute for titanium dioxide.
  • Fiberglass and Artificial Stone Industries: Used as a strengthener and filler, with the capability to replace fumed silica up to a certain percentage.
  • Animal Feed and Food Industries: Prevents clumping and sticking of particles in powdered and granular food and feed products.
  • Detergents Industry: Used as an anti-caking agent and anti-clumping agent in detergent powders, especially in humid areas.

Storage Conditions

  • Packaging and Storage: Aluminum silicate should be packaged in moisture-resistant bags and stored in a dry, cool environment with proper ventilation.
  • Safety Precautions: Avoid inhaling dust, as it can be irritating to the respiratory system and may lead to respiratory issues. When handling, use gloves and masks. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse the affected areas immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.
  • Child Safety: Store aluminum silicate out of reach of children in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated area.
